On the 10th May, 2006 committee members travelled to Sri Lanka to inspect
our building projects. The main delay is that the Sri Lankan Government is
not helping with the infrastructure at the projects or are they giving us
a date when running water would be supplied to these houses.
There are other houses built near our site but they have no running water.
The people living in these houses have to collect water from a pump 400m
away for cooking, washing and toilet facilities.
Having seen this we decided
to build an overhead tank and pump water from a well to this tank so that
all 28 houses will have running water. The contractor has to lay pipes
to each house and then complete the roads at our project. We are also
building retaining walls to each house so that they each know their boundaries.
